Freeman Flash
The Newsletter of the FFFA
by Larry Bothe, January 2012
The Freeman Flash was established in July of 1999 by Editor Larry Bothe and has been published each month since that time. The purpose is to keep area pilots, especially those who do not attend FFFA meetings, up-to-date on news about Freeman Field. Besides the news items there is a calendar of events and contact list for the FFFA officers. The monthly Treasurer's report is published so members can see at a glance where their money is going. Member accomplishments (getting a new FAA certificate or rating, buying a plane, having a baby, etc.) are documented here. There is also a listing of ads in the back. Free ads are available to all paid-up members. Aviation humor is used as filler to make the newsletter come out to an even number of pages, typically 6 to 8 sides of 8.5 x 11 paper, each month.
Each member of the FFFA receives the Flash every month. About half of the members receive it as an attachment to an e-mail; the balance is sent through the US Mail. We of course prefer the e-mail distribution of the newsletter as it saves us both copying cost and postage. The benefit to the members receiving the newsletter electronically is they get it several days earlier than the snail-mail recipients, and the pictures, when there are any, are in living color instead of black & white.
Contributions to the newsletter (articles, news items, suggestions, etc.) are welcomed. Send them to Larry at
Lbothe@comcast.net. You can also contact Larry if you want a back issue of the Flash.
Finally, we need to acknowledge the silent partner in this newsletter effort, FFFA member Berl Grant. Berl has the newsletter copied for us each month at his place of business, Seymour Manufacturing Co., for the cost of the supplies. That turns out to be about ½ the cost of having it done at a commercial copying establishment. Thanks,
Berl.
